Summer's First Update
Hey, rockers!
Don’t we all love the things that summer brings? This time, besides the sun, the heat, and the abundance of strawberries and cherries, it brings a good yield of Jammy Guitars!
Yup, we have increased production significantly — just as promised. Last week alone, we’ve sent 240 units to the dispatching facility. All in all, we got more than 350 guitars delivered to our backers, and 390 more on their way right now, as I type this update.
This summer is going to be a hot season for the Jammy Team. Apart from producing more guitars, we’re working hard on enhancing the Jammy experience to the max. We’re utilizing the advantage only a digital instrument can provide — it gets better even after it has left the assembly line thanks to constant updates.
To do it, we need you. Each and every comment we get from you results in the further development of firmware and software. So please, send your feedback at support@playjammy.com to help us improve the overall experience for the whole Jammy community!
Have a great summer and don’t forget to download the latest firmware version (1.3.7) to make sure you get the best out of your Jammy — the update improves strings sensitivity a great deal and addresses questions raised by our backers lately.

Hi An!
Sorry for the delayed reply.
I hope everything's fine and your Jammy has already arrived

It's a total scam! And a shame to launch a product that doesn't work properly! The sensitivity on the right hand is poor, and it's not possible to finger pick with out tearing your fingers to blood after a while.
Half the range of right hand strings does not respond to normal finger picking.
The sliding is a total joke! Almost don't work at all! It almost work if you set the sensitivity high, put since that is the same as hammer on sensitivity the sensors then interpret almost all finger movements as hammer on even when you play chords and adjust your fingers. Then you get double notes all the time! Extremely annoying! So either you get no sound because of lacking sensitivity on your right hand, or too much sound and notes because of screwed up sensitivity, that's not adjustable without getting other problems instead.
The pitch bend and vibrato is so bad that I would have buried my self any day before releasing anything like that. It's not one note that is bended up or down and that rings out. First. If you bend the whole range up fast, it gets there (if you remembered to pluck your right hand hard so you get sound), but when you release it and return to the original note, the jammy plays that note again, so it sounds like you pluck the string again. And that's the problem with the vibrato as well. When you vibrate your finger just slightly and fast (like normal vibrato to get your guitar playing come to life and away from dull no emotion playing), then it sounds like a old sequencer, ring modulator or guitar totally out of tune! It's sounds so sour! It seems like and sounds like it is playing a lot of single recorded notes fast after each other, where each is starting at max volume and decaying. (hard to describe) but it sounds like a series of notes is played fast after each other and it's pitching way more than the little movement you are doing and sounds just totally out of tune.
Basically it has nothing to do with a beautiful vibration adding style to your playing. It ruins it.
I've been playing guitar for 30 years on a hobby basis with a few live performances.
This is not a tool to improve your playing (except for some precision exercises) note by note played hard.
I will compare it to playing guitar on Playstations Rockband. It only helps you a little to have played a normal guitar before, to get good at it. It's something totally different. And you certainly don't get good at playing normal guitar by playing it. It actually screws up your playing skills!
And the fact that you you don't have the technology to recreate pinched harmonics is just sad.
It's so little finesse here, that it's only good for hammering out some power chords.
The nylon acoustic guitar sound is just sad. It sounds like a electrified steel string guitar on a bad amp.
The fact that your sensor does not know where your fingers are located, also add to the poor performance on vibrato and bending.
Take the whole thing back to the drawing table. Get high res finger positioning sensors in, in ☓/Y pattern.
Make a patent with same strings all the way, like a normal guitar.
And get me up to at least 21 frets! This is good for nothing!
And come on and up the game on the effects and amount of presets....
I hope you will accept returns and pay for return freight cost.
I feel like we've been fooled.
You can probably get good at playing jammy, like you can get good at Rockband. But it doesn't mean you add to your guitar skills.
Sorry guys! Had high hopes for this product and your ideas. But this was a real disappointment...
For the record. It was upgraded to the latest firmware improving sensitivity, before I tried it out.

I’ve unfortunately had the same experience as B. Dahl. Terrible sound samples, tracking, muting. Unusable bends, slides and vibrato. I’d like to add that often when strumming chords using MIDI/Garage band, notes stick on!!! It seems like when a bunch of commands happen at once, it doesn’t send the ‘note off’ command. MIDI tracking is otherwise very good if you keep the bend option off. Jammy Scammy!! Get Cancel your order if you can!!!!

This thing needs a whole lot of firmware work, if the company can even fix the problems this has. It's very difficult to play things that sound... musical.
Benjamin Hobbs 6/26/2019 04:01:17 pm
Just got the guitar today. Just emailed support today for a return.... DHL costs about $55 to ship back but luckily I am not out of all of it! Maybe I will get myself an apple watch instead... at least a product that will work as intended.
Johnny 6/27/2019 09:29:11 pm
Yes... Its extremely sad but you are right on all counts.
I was so excited about this product.
We were all completely lied to.
How can you post that promotional material and take people's money when you know damn well that it doesnt work as advertised?
Shame on all of those involved.
Edmundo 6/25/2019 09:36:55 pm
Hi, I am Edmundo and I ordered a jammy guitar in June 6th, I live in Brazil and my order number is #25712376, when I should receive it?
Johnny 6/26/2019 02:42:29 pm
Great... I was hoping my unit was defective but it sounds like everyone is having the same experience...
Not sure why these comments didnt start appearing till order numbers after 1400 started receiving their guitars.
I had extremely high hopes...
This is not even close to being a playable guitar.
Really disappointing...
Benjamin Hobbs 6/26/2019 03:53:51 pm
Sadly... it looks like I am on the same boat. It is very lame that these comments didn't start appearing until 1400 or so.... I was hoping indeed that mine was defective but it looks like we are all out of luck with a truly travel guitar. The build is good, the feel is great, the design is great, the travel bags are great, the excitement of putting it together is great, the breaking it down is great... but if the sound sucks... I sadly can't be okay with spending 500 bucks on something that is a great idea but doesn't actually work. I am seeing how much shipping is today (the very day I got it) and hoping I can get my money back. I will wait out an product in the future until it is fully released. I guess I learned my lesson.
Johnny 6/27/2019 03:21:12 pm
They have told me I can return it but I just spent $108 on import fees from FedEx the day it arrived.
This is disgusting.
Obviously nobody will be happy with the playability of this thing.
I agree about the feel and build quality but if it isnt playable then what is the point?
This is shameful, this product was completely misrepresented. They have a few guitars that they spent a lot of time fine tuning to make playable so they could demonstrate it and make videos. Then they just shipped out unplayable lemons to everyone who supported them.
I want a full refund and I want the import charges played for. I hate being lied to and taken advantage of.
What a joke.
Jesse 6/27/2019 06:32:07 pm
So I received the unit. It's definitely rough for now, though I found that adjusting the sensitivity helps quite a bit.
I don't think it's as bad as some people are making it out to be, it is a Kickstarter project that is still considered in pre-order, so I expected some bugs and glitches. The build quality is overall pretty good but there are some problems, the screws that they used seem to be fairly easy to strip, there's some pieces that are plastic that should clearly be metal, like the "lock and roll" system, and the software is buggy as all get out, but this does show promise.
As of now I can't play anything more complicated than the main riff to Heart Shaped Box, that's about as complicated as you can get and still make it sound like you're playing a song. Soloing doesn't seem possible right now, and definitely not more fun riffs like Tenacious D's "Metal", but it's playable, especially chords and power chords.
My biggest concern has been that I've been emailing Jammy about a couple of issues I've had and I got no response in several days. I imagine the company's being flooded with complaints right now, because people were probably hoping for something a little more robust, so I understand the delay.
I hope that the software improvements will make the playing experience better, and that they are able to bring a "performance capable" machine, but this is more suitable for a jam sesh in the woods when you can't bring your guitar.
If you're reading these comments on her super worried about the quality, know that they even stated that it's for when you're on the train and you can't play your guitar, this is not meant to be played for other people. Also, spend a lot of time adjusting the sensitivity options to find what works best for your play style.
I look forward to Future updates!
Johnny 6/27/2019 08:33:32 pm
My "lock and roll" mechanism successfully installed once and then broke after the very first time I removing it. So while you at least acknowledge this shortcoming, you also dramatically under exaggerated how poorly it was designed.
Aside from that I dont really have any other complaints about the build quality. But I would gladly sacrifice a bit of build quality for even the slightest bit of performance.
When it comes to your forgiveness towards the unplayability, I have to say you are a total shmuck and shame on you for pandering to these charlatans.
We all watched the promotional videos and demos before we made our purchases. We witnessed them showing off a playable device that behaved like a guitar.
What we received is a peice of garbage and an absolute insult to any guitarist that has graduated past basic tablature or strumming of power chords.
I'm sorry but this is unacceptable and you should be worried, because you and everyone else who wasted their hard earned money on this has been spoon fed a shit sandwich.
I am outraged, plain and simple.
Supposedly the months of delays were a result of the vigorous quality control testing prior to shipment. Supposedly the new firmware update would help with sensitivity issues. Supposedly we were buying an instrument.
A lot of supposing going on.
Personally I dont suppose there is a snowball's chance in hell that they are going to fix this mess.
We didnt pay to be your testers and help eventually arrive at satisfactory product. I strongly suspect that there is no amount of firmware updating that will make these things actually play like a guitar. You lied to us, plain and simple.
The concept is great, the reality is not.
Give us our money back, all of it. Including the money we wasted on importing your useless prototypes.
Jesse 6/28/2019 02:59:32 am
I can do without the childish name calling, it's not really getting your point across.
I don't know if you've ever invested in an indiegogo (not Kickstarter, my bad) product before, but it is almost exactly paying to be their beta testers. Read IGGs description of you don't believe me. I'm a musician and engineer, when I saw the project I knew it's being made by some excited musicians and engineers with a solid idea.
I'm not angry because I knew what I was getting. A promise, and an investment into that idea.
My lock and roll worked exactly 0 times before it broke. It's a big design flaw, but it's one that can be fixed by a redesign and them shipping out a $2 part made of metal.
I'm sorry it's bothering you more than me, but I parted with that money knowing it was to invest in their company.
Benjamin Hobbs 6/29/2019 04:28:27 am
I think I can see both sides of the coin here.
The frustration of Johnny is understandable and surley shared by many as the product received, though still in testing and beta phases, was nothing like the advertisements. Honnesty is huge in development, admiting where we are and where we would like to be is primary for success. If they were honnest upfront with the current issues, there wouldn't be such an outrage.
Jesse, I also understand your point of view. Indeed I mentioned to another commentor many posts back who was complaining that this is clearly a pre-order. The very idea of a pre-order is ordering something before it is actually ready. This not including the fact that it is a pre-order still on indegogo. I am torn whether to pay the money to ship it back or hold on to it out of hopes that firmware will improve. I love the idea, the design has very few flaws.
All that said, I hope they will address many of the issues that we are having. I can strum each string slowly with the same pressure and eight times out of ten a string will not ring and be muted or just make no sound at all even with the sensitivity setting all the way up. This is something, for example, that I would have loved to know about before receiving the product. There are clearly still many issues that they are dealing with and if the buyers were informed of such before their purchase no one would be frustrated on this comment section.
On another note, does any one know how to remove not only the Jammy cover plate on the top of the neck but also the other cover in order to access the strings? I am curious how it would play when tightening up the strings but I can't seem to figure out how to access them.

Nevermind on the string tightness. I just found it. I figured you pushed up on the back but I didn't want to break anything. I am going to try this adjustement (as the strings are EXTREMELY loose) and then mess with the settings. If it is still completely unplayable I will probably ship it back. DHL costs about 60 bucks to ship. I will post again if I find any improvements.
Benjamin Hobbs 6/29/2019 05:06:33 am
Yikes you all! I can't seem to get this back plate off to tighten the strings for the life of me! Any of you have any luck?
Daniel from Jammy 8/23/2019 06:15:46 am
Hi Benjamin.
If you're still looking for a way to do that, you can find it in this video.

I wanted to give everyone an update as to the issues I had been having with my Jammy.
At these early stages of the release of this technology, the preformance was not on par with my skill level. I communicated my concerns to the support staff at Jammy and they were gladly willing to accept a return.
There were some complications due to the fact that they are still working out the logistics in regards to the international return process. This is totally understandable seeing as how they are a new company.
The customer service I received during the entire process was absolutely wonderful and I am happy to say that the matter has now been completely resolved.
Despite the fact that the technology was not quite where it needed to be for my personal playing style, I do have a lot of faith in this company in the future. This devise in it's current form still has a lot of value to anyone who is learning to play guitar and will also be adequate for various other playing styles.
I also beleive that over time, software and firmware updates will dramatically improve the playability of this devise. I also beleive based on what they have produced so far that this company will eventually be able to produce a digital guitar that will play and feel exactly like a real guitar.
The concept is absolutely amazing and I look forward to seeing what Jammy has to offer in the future.
